Welcome to the home of the African Oyster Trust.
The trust is a small charity dedicated to the relief of poverty and sickness in the former British colonies of Africa, particularly the Gambia.
By focusing on carefully selected local projects, and by working closely with reliable contacts on the ground, we believe that a small charity like ours can make a real difference to the lives of thousands of families.
At present we are particularly focused on supporting educational and health projects not funded by the government, believing education to be one of the most powerful and long-lasting ways of breaking the cycle of poverty.
This website contains more details about the work we do, and some of our individual projects.
It also includes a regular news update in the form of the Trust's own blog, and information about The Gambia, one of the smallest – and poorest – countries in Africa.
All our funds are raised by individual and corporate donations and through fund-raising events – and all the money we raise goes directly to projects on the ground.
Please do click here if you would like more details on how you could get involved and support that work.
