The Projects - Bakary Sambouya Clinic

The African Oyster Trust provides support and management expertise to a health centre in the Gambian village of Bakary Sambouya.

Inspired by our successful management of the health centre in Jappineh, the Kambeng Trust which previously managed Bakary Sambouya Clinic asked us to assume responsibility for it from 2021 (click here to read the full history).

Since taking over this responsibility, a precarious funding position has been turned around. In particular, the introduction of appropriate charges for treatment has ensured that there is clear forward planning for salary and medicine costs, ensuring the long-term viability of this important facility.

The Trust continues to advise and support Head Nurse Sylvester Sambou and Administrator Pa Gibba and the team running the clinic.
